Day 19: Awareness is the first step...30-Day Miracle with AFT

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just a quick post today…

For the first time EVER, I bought a turkey that was pre-cooked.  I have my wonderful friend Karen to thank for her suggestion.  The turkey this year was the mental block I had to continuing our annual tradition of hosting a "turkey trot" and brunch.  We've done it every year since 2005 ...except for one when we were out of town.

But this year, I was tired and somewhat overwhelmed.  Every time I thought about the upcoming Thanksgiving festivities, I felt so burdened; I wanted to cancel.

I decided that we should just not do our turkey trot this year.

I couldn't get it out of my head, though.  I love traditions and consistency. My kids wanted to have our trot. They love the food. How could I do it….I was blocked!

Thinking back, I should have known to do an AFT on myself, ha! But I was at least walking in awareness that what I was dreading most was fixing the turkey. It was this huge mental and emotional block.

Because of this awareness, when Karen (also a fellow AFT-er!) mentioned pre-ordering a turkey from Dickey's and how easy it was, I had an "aha" moment: I could buy a pre-cooked turkey.

Once I made that decision, hosting the turkey trot was no longer such an overwhelming thought. I felt empowered to host our dinner. I had creative energy to prepare several delicious side dishes.

What kept me from thinking creatively was this small, mental and emotional block. And as soon as it was removed, the flow was restored. Praise the Lord!

I look back on the day with a lot of gratitude. I'm definitely thankful we decided to host our turkey trot along with the Thanksgiving meal. I'm glad we made the investment to purchase a pre-cooked turkey because next year and ten years from now, I won't remember that I spent a few extra dollars. I will remember the people, the fun, the fellowship…

I'm so thankful for all of the gifts God has placed in my life and for the freedom I have today within and without…free to make choices and decisions, more free from fear and more clear in my direction, my heart expanding to embrace all God has called me to be.

Love to you all.

I'm off to do my affirmation!
